Spray tanning methods

There are 3 spray tanning methods that you could use:

1.   Automatic spray tanning booth – it is a great method if you do not like people getting close and personal to your naked (or almost naked) body.  You undress in a private room, so you can easily spray tan in the nude (and most people do). You put on a shower cap and blocking cream on your finger and toe nails as well as onto the palms of your hands and soles of your feet then you hop into the booth. Follow the instructions that you were given about which positions to take and when.

Some booths now have a canned voice telling you when to change the positions. All in all it is pretty easy and it is really hard to mess anything up really badly.

The tanning process takes about 1 minute and then you hop out, towel yourself off, wipe the blocking cream off your fingernails and toenails and simply get dressed in some dark, loose clothing and you are ready to go. Could not be simpler, and since the whole process takes about 15 minutes, you can do it in your lunch break.

2.   Hand sprayed by a spray tanning technician – get down to your thong (salons often provide a paper one because it can get stained) and stand up in the special extraction booth or tent while a spray tanning technician uses a hand held HVLP (high volume low pressure) or airbrush gun to go over your body section by section.

A lot of people swear by this method because you can get finer details really perfect as well as fill in tan lines and accentuate abs. Some spray tan technicians are real artists and can make you look slimmer and even taller. Apart from preparation it will take about 10-15 mins to get spray tanned. After that you need some time to stand in front of a fan and dry off.

You should allow yourself about an hour to do the whole process as it also could involve customizing spray tanning solution to your skin type and discussing your future spray tanning needs with the technician (otherwise known as sales process).

3.   Home spray tanning. I must say that I am not a big fan of it as it not only involves owning your own spray tan gun, but also being able to get into pretty extreme positions if you are doing it by yourself. Unless, of course you have a willing partner, Mom, sister or friend to help you. Can get quite messy, so it is best to do it in a shower recess.

Another thing is – you have to use the spray tanning solution within specified time, otherwise it can get stale. Stale spray tanning solution can result in tans lasting no more than 1- 2 days or not developing at all. Spray tanning salons usually have a pretty good turnover and can get through the container of solution well before the expiry date.

I have tried to spray tan at home, but in the end just settled for a good self tanner and a pair of latex gloves. Just as quick, but easier and produces much less mess.

Out of all the spray tanning methods home application is the cheapest though, so it has its enthusiasts.

So, keeping those 3 spray tanning methods in mind choose the one that suits you best. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages and it is up to you to pick the one that you feel comfortable with.
